About
I was born and raised in Durango, Colorado, before heading east to study at Yale University, where I received my BA and MA in History. I then moved to the UK, obtaining my MPhil in Historical Studies and PhD in History from the University of Cambridge. After holding a three-year Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at Royal Holloway, University of London, I took up a lectureship in international history at the University of Leeds, and was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor in 2019. I moved back to the US in 2022 as the Lee E. Dirks Chair in Diplomatic History at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and Associate Professor of History. I am the recipient of the 2023 Robert H. Ferrell Prize for my book, Afghan Crucible, and the 2024 Stuart L. Bernath Lecture Prize from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. I am represented by David Higham Associates.
